National Conference of State Legislatures: Transparency and Disclosure of Health Costs and Provider Payments- State Actions

In the past decade, health care price transparency or disclosure has emerged a hot topic in state legislatures as a strategy for containing health costs. States, the federal government and the private sector have enacted legal requirements and initiated programs that aim to shed light on the costs of health care services. This report describes a number of state actions over the past two decades that promote efforts to improve transparency in health charges and provider payments.
